Social Justice Elective
The University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatrics and the Office of Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion present CHP VUE, the Virtual Underrepresented in Medicine Elective.
Bringing in both didactic and practical, in-community engagement learning experiences and knowledge translation, Dr. Loreta Matheo and Noble Maseru, Ph.D., M.P.H., lead a complex and comprehensive curriculum and coordinate some of the most critical, social change-making providers, thought leaders and pediatric clinician experts in their fields.
The 2 or 4 week fall semester interdisciplinary Pediatrics and Pediatrics Subspecialties elective allows for dialogue-centered and immersive experience integrating social justice, antiracism and health equity. Weeks 1 & 2 include virtual case-based learning. Weeks 3 & 4 include in-person, in Pittsburgh learning opportunities. The elective is ideal for third and fourth year medical students and open to learners from all United States accredited medical schools. We anticipate this elective being an annual offering and are excited for the infusion of social justice in health care. For more information on how to apply, submit your information.
